A TASTE OF EXTREMADURA

A taste of Extremadura

This county is full of charming places. It has got a special light, specially the in south where it blends the redish soil full of green from olive trees and holm oaks.

Valle del Jerte (Jerte valley) is well known for its cherry trees. Watching their blossoms is an amazing experience. It is like walking through snowy paths in sunny spring, with temperatures that make you feel so grateful to know that the winter is over.

There is a place called Los Pilones, named after the backwaters where River Jerte flows, which has an incomparable beauty. The nearest village is called Cabezabellosa. That place is for forgetting about time, enjoying the sun, the sound of the water and the scenery surrounding it. Not long ago you had to walk for three hours through tracks that only the locals knew. But nowadays there's a short cut with signs which takes you to this paradise in 20 minutes. The short cut allows lots of people to get there. However the paradise becomes a pool full of bathers in some days of summer. Luckily if you go up the backwaters there are still some silent and quiet bends.
